photos of downtown Kansas City

Here are some photos from downtown Kansas City that I took over a month ago when I was there for a conference. I am posting them for those who donÂ't know about this city (I sure didnÂ't before I went there and I still know very little) and not because the pics are of high quality or anything even close to that.

The first one is unfortunately the only skyline shot I could get during my trip:

The Missouri river:

From my hotel room:

Allis Plaza:

Bartle Hall convention center with the Sky Stations ( a sculpture from 1994)

From the other side of the hotel:

The One Kansas City Place: 42 floors

Under construction:

Strolling through downtown:

The Ninth Street historic district:

Watching the news the same evening, I found out that a murder occured on this same block the night before walking there. Apparently a girl chased down her Russian boyfriend and killed him on the sidewalk:

The New York Life Building (from 1890, 10 floorsni, Renaissance Revival style):

Sculpture of Louis Saint-Gaudens over the entrance:

Looking from the hotel towards Kansas, where, just to confuse people, there is another (much smaller) Kansas City

The Marriot Hotel illuminated at night:

The Municipal Auditorium: built in Art Deco style during the great depression with a price-tag of $ 6.5 M

From Allis Plaza:

The Kansas City Power and Light Co. Building, 36 floors:

Parking underneath offices:

The hotel I was in looks horrible from the outside:

But this is, in my opinion, the ugliest building in the city:

Others:

TheGarment District:

Walking through Broadway:

As you can see, there is a general lack of people walking through the streets:

End of my little tour, I hope you enjoyed it.>
