Atlantis vs. Japan

Atlantis is a very interesting concept, being a highly advanced island megacivilization that has a remarkable standard of living for its time. Enthusiasts claim that it was equal if not more advanced than today's countries. Its capital city had a series of concentric canals and a circular island in the center with a temple of Poseidon 300 feet high (around 90m) and a palace the size of a small city. Well similarly today, there is a highly advanced island megacivilization among us with a remarkable standard of living too. It is called Japan. Supposedly Atlantis possesses technology and lifestyle equal or higher to that of the 21st century so I figured a comparison between these island megacivilizations are fair game.
