Googleearthing Rio de Janeiro!!! A complete tour from the space! (part II)

this is the continuation of the thread http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=238172

The previous thread gives a view of the whole metro area of Rio, and also views of Copacabana, Ipanema, Sugarloaf mountain, Christ Statue. Its highly recomended that you see the other thread to understand where each thing here is located (the metro area image shows the location of each letter below)

E, DOWNTOWN

E1
This is the Flamengo neighborhood, between Botafogo and Downtown. Very dense. It gives name to one of the most popular brazilian football (soccer) clubs. Botafogo is in the left (south) of this picture, while downtown is right (north). Notice the buildings forming a "wall" around the big naked rock boulder, on the bottom left of the image.

E2
This is downtown Rio de Janeiro. Its very dense and has several buildings over 150 meters, although none is taller than 170 meters. It has beautiful colonial architecture, with art-deco highrises, classical architecture and glass skyscrapers. There are awesome threads with inside images of Rio´s downtown in the forums. Just look for them. On the top left, the cone shaped building is the Cathedral, which yes, its VERY weird for a cathedral. A bit right-bottom is Petrobras building, mroe known as Rubik´s Cube, although from the space you cannot quite notice the reason for the nickname. To the bottom of the picture lies Rio´s domestic airport.

E3
This is Rio´s domestic airport, just south of downtown. It provides the most fantastic takeoffs and landings, since there is downtown in your right and the Sugarloaf mountain straight ahead (some 2km distant). Also, there is sea in front and behind the landing strip, so you better pray the pilot will stop or takeoff the plane on time
On the left of the pic, a beautiful Marina, overlooking downtown (which is located over the top of this image). Flamengo is the beach on the left of the picture

E4
In this image you can see the Lapa aqueduct. They are near downtown, and today, serve as a bridge for a tram, but it was actually built as an aqueduct by the portuguese ni the 17th century

E5
Just some meters northeast from downtown, its located this artificial island which serves as a navy base and harbour. You can see two brazilian aircraft carriers in the picture, the Minas Gerais and São Paulo. Minas Gerais was the old one, and was later sold to some scrapyard in China or something like this.

F, THE RIO-NITERÃ"I BRIDGE
The Rio Niterói bridge is a 14 km long bridge connecting Rio de Janeiro to Niterói. Between 1810 and 1960 (that is, after the portuguese royal family came to Brasil and Rio became capital and before the building of Brasilia), Rio was the capital of the country and Niterói the state capital (the state was called Guanabara, like the bay. Today, the state is called Rio de Janeiro, like the city)
The Guanabara bay not only has important harbours as its also FULL of oil in its depths. Because of that, the bay and Rio´s harbor has intense movement of oil ships, as well as oil plataforms and many islands on the harbor have oil tanks.

F1
This is a close up of the highest point of the bridge. The bridge has taller pillars and a much larger space between each pillar to make possible the passage of the huge ships in this area.

F2
This is another navy base, in an island, connect with the exterior world by the Rio-Niteroi bridge

F3
Right north of the navy base there is this cool shipyard... its kinda of an island... with this huge bridge nearby and mountains around!

F4
while right south of the navy base there is this other shipyard and also a oil plataform assembling facility!! Almost 100% of Brasil´s oil comes from deep under the ocean. Brasil is almost independant of exterior oil, and Petrobras Company is leader in exploration of very deep submarine oil reserves.

F5
this is the arrival of the bridge in Niterói. What a confusion. Reminds me of Los Angeles!!

G, WHERE YOU FOREIGNERS ARRIVE
This is Rio´s international airport, located on a big island on the north of the Guanabara Bay. If you guys arrive in Rio, this is probably the first thing you will see

H, BRAZILIAN STYLE SUBURBS 1
These are residential neighborhoods in the northern area of Rio de Janeiro, quite away from the famous settings, although you can see them in the horizon
They are low middle class neighborhoods. You will be hardpressed to find those sprawling north-american style suburbs in Brasil, with huge terrains. Low middle class will live inside the city but a bit far from downtown in these not big houses with small terrains. The middle class will mostly live in highrises inside the city. The rich will live in big houses inside or near the city.

I, BRAZILIAN STYLE SUBURBS 2
this is a low medium class neighborhood in the city of Duque de Caxias, a "sleeping city" for workers in Rio de Janeiro.

ok, folks... thats it! Hope your modem is not on fire from downloading all this stuff...>
