USA Sprawl Festival continued: Phoenix-South

Since Windows Live Local recently added some more cities to its bird's-eye view collection . . . and since I'm bored and also addicted to Windows Live Local I decided to add some more sprawl pics.

The other thread got really big and I think not everyone wanted to download everything just to see certain cities they were interested in, so I've decided to give each city its own thread for this round.

If you want to see all of the other thread, click here:
USA Sprawl Festival.

Or, click on the following links to see just individual cities in that thread:

Kansas City
Some northern Denver suburbs
Albuquerque
Seattle
Las Vegas
Dallas-Fort Worth
Some western & southern Minneapolis suburbs
Orange County, California
Philadelphia
Tucson
Orlando
Northern Virginia/DC
Cleveland
Houston
Northern Atlanta suburbs
Indianapolis
Long Island, New York
Jacksonville
Boston

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I found Phoenix sprawl to be particularly interesting to look at, so I've dedicated not one, but four threads to it. The combination of sprawl-in-the-desert stuff and the otherwordly oasis-in-the-desert stuff was just so fascinating I got addicted! Plus the Southwestern architecture just looks neat.

South Phoenix

This mostly consisted of Chandler, Tempe and Gilbert, with maybe some Mesa and Phoenix thrown in for good measure.

This part of the metro seemed to have more places of employment than either north, east or, especially, west Phoenix.

Some big plant of some kind. Is this part of the Intel plant???

An industrial park.

More coming soon.

Or was this the Intel plant??

This is the greenest grass I have ever seen in my life!

Really boring stuff.

This was part of a development in the far south Phoenix city limits that ate into a mountain side.

^
I think this was part of that same development.

It's an illusion! We're in the desert!

It's not real! It doesn't exist! It can't be true!

Peaking into people's yards.

Fancy new houses going up next to a small craft airport.

Freeway and sprawl. An all-American image!

Yep, this is the desert my friend!

Junky stuff. Complete with junked cars littering people's backyards.
Looking at these pics and the other Phoenix ones, I'm starting to wonder if there's some sort of pathology among a lot of poor people that they have to collect junked cars in their yards??
Or maybe not all of them are junked cars. I dunno. Some of them look like they might be businesses.

No junked cars here!

Typical business park.

Another plant of some kind.

Neighborhood shopping center and sprawl #1.

Neighborhood shopping center and sprawl #2.

New church and sprawl.

This was a Motorola plant.

Small shopping center and sprawl. With golf course.

Yet another brand-spanking-new Mormon church surrounded by brand-spanking-new sprawl.

Apartment city.
