People in Action (Shenzhen, China)

I was having a discussion with some photographers at another forum, we were talking about how to take pictures of people. So I decided to bring it over here. One of my favorite tactics is to frame something in the background, and simply wait for someone to walk across or just stand there. What are some of your techniques? Obviously, asking is a simple one. But there are so many times when you just don't want a person looking straight into the camera, you want to capture a person in action, naturally. Here are some photos I have accumulated over the past year of living in China. Technically, they are not the best pictures, but I hope you like them!

Looking and pretending to shoot the dishes.

Hiding nothing. Yes, I gave him some money. Always for street musicians!

This girl conveniently started posing for others as I was framing the skyline.

Waited until they hit the bottom left corner of the frame.

This guy gets props because he randomly jumped in front of my camera. Unfortunately, 1 second exposure.

Five birds with one stone. 1 second handheld exposure. Whoops, blurry.

Waiting for people to walk by.

Set it on the ground to see what came out. Nobody noticed.

I was looking at the buildings beyond as I framed this shot. Eventually they became comfortable.

Only one guy noticed I was taking this.

Behind the back.

Again.

Trying out all kinds of crazy angles, he just began to ignore me.

Just let them walk by, hoping cell phone guy would stay still.

Ok that's me using a self-timer. People definitely looked at me strange here.

Mabye I'll post some more of Hong Kong later. Peace!>
