I start my Sao Paulo Picture Album with my second hometown, Osasco, a suburb of 700'000 which is the commercial and industrial center of western Sao Paulo. It is anyway not a very famous town although it is the 5th city in the state and independant from Sao Paulo since about 40 years. The name originates from the birthplace of its "founder" (kinda, he brought the industry and wealth to the place 100 years ago), Antonio Agu, Osasco near Asti in Italy.
The entrance to the town from Sao Paulo (Shopping Continental)
One of the reasons Osasco was growing in the 20th century was because it has a big army training center in Quitauna.
The symbol of the town is of course the bridge - more a monument one mayor built for himself as a real useful construction.
Our petstore and vet - as some of you might know we have ferrets and 2 years ago one got sick. I guess our vet was financing this renovation of his shop with our consultation
At least a ferret is painted on the left...The boom of appartment buildings is enormous as in Sampa itself
While in the center you still find streets from the the golden industrial era of the early 20th century
But it all started with houses like this (only a few remained)
The commercial center is car-free but always packed with people. As you might know Rio has the beaches, the Paulistanos have the shoppings...
The new monument built on one of the highest points of the city
