NYC:Brooklyn hoods-Manhattan Beach

Heading east brings us into the hood known as Manhattan Beach. It goes from Corbin Pl to Oriental Beach between Sheepshead Bay and Rockaway Inlet. This hood is mostly residential. It was until 1878 when the NY & Manhattan Beach Railway was built allowing for it be connected to the rest of Brooklyn. Austin Corbin was known for developing this area. The land was made into a resort that had featured luxury hotels. The railway was upgraed in 1884 after being bought by the LIRR. Unfortunately, the early 1900's were not too kind to Manhattan Beach as there was a decline in the resorts and gambling, in neighboring Brighton Beach, was outlawed. In 1924, the NY&MB RR stopped with passanger service and later on with frieght service in the next ten years, which lead to the removal of the tracks. The postwar era brought in a number of Jewish immigrants from Russia as they settled in the bungalows. In 1963, Kingsboro CC was founded at the tip by Oriental Beach. There isn't too much to see here except for residential blocks, though there are some local businesses here. You can get here by taking the B1 and B49 buses from either Brighton Beach (B, Q) or Sheeshed Bay (B, Q). Here is what you will find in Manhattan Beach.
