NYC:Brooklyn hoods-Flatbush
Continuing south brings us into the hood known as Flatbush. It goes from Ditmas Ave to the NY & Atlantic Railway between Ocean Pkwy and Foster Ave with Nostrand Ave. This hood is both residential and commercial. It was first founded in 1651 as being part of Midwout. However, this was until the British took it over after ruling with an easy victory. Eventually, Flatbush got to be its own town as it developed into suburbs after being farms in the 1800's. In 1877, the LIRR was built to go to Bay Ridge was known to go through here. A year later came the Brookly, Flatbush, & Coney Island RR to act as a hub. In 1894, Flatbush became part of Brooklyn and later as part of NYC in 1898. In the early 1900's, Flatbush started to become more urban. In 1930, Brooklyn College was founded for those who wanted to learn. Commercialization hit this area big with Newkirk Plaza being a major center. Throughout the post-war era, Flatbush began to build a number of apartments for its growing population and students. In 1997, the NY & Atlantic Railway took over the former line of the LIRR. You can find parrots in this area especially since it's NYC. You can get here by taking the subway to Newkirk Ave-Nostrand Ave (2, 5), Flatbush Ave-Brooklyn College (2, 5), Newkirk Ave-Marbarlough Rd (B, Q), and Ave H (Q). Here is what you will find in Flatbush.
