USA Sprawl Festival continued: Phoenix-West

Since Windows Live Local recently added some more cities to its bird's-eye view collection . . . and since I'm bored and also addicted to Windows Live Local I decided to add some more sprawl pics.

The other thread got really big and I think not everyone wanted to download everything just to see certain cities they were interested in, so I've decided to give each city its own thread for this round.

If you want to see all of the other thread, click here:
USA Sprawl Festival.

Or, click on the following links to see just individual cities in that thread:

Kansas City
Some northern Denver suburbs
Albuquerque
Seattle
Las Vegas
Dallas-Fort Worth
Some western & southern Minneapolis suburbs
Orange County, California
Philadelphia
Tucson
Orlando
Northern Virginia/DC
Cleveland
Houston
Northern Atlanta suburbs
Indianapolis
Long Island, New York
Jacksonville
Boston

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I found Phoenix sprawl to be particularly interesting to look at, so I've dedicated not one, but four threads to it. The combination of sprawl-in-the-desert stuff and the otherwordly oasis-in-the-desert stuff was just so fascinating I got addicted! Plus the Southwestern architecture just looks neat.

West Phoenix

This is the area from around Sun City to the south and east. Except for some of the older parts of Sun City itself and a few other spots, most of this is quite new stuff.

Some junky stuff

New houses rising on former farms, with some farms left over

There's still a lot of irrigated farmland left in this area. But you can be sure much of it will be gone soon

New stuff on the way

More farms. Enjoy it before it's gone!

Even the school designs here look kinda neat from the air. I've got several pics in these Phoenix threads with schools amid the houses. Looks kinda homely, too.

More coming soon to a subdivision near you.

This is part of Sun City. For those of you who don't know, Sun City is a giant retirement community northeast of Phoenix. I think they started building it in the 60's or thereabouts.
This particular pic is some of the older stuff.

This is in "downtown" Sun City. They're still building a ton of new things there.

I'm pretty sure this was one of the newer parts of Sun City

Back to some regular stuff. You can tell if a development isn't part of Sun City because it'll have a school in it. When I looked through Sun City I noticed there weren't any schools.

Anyway, notice the Mormon church in the bottom-center. The neighborhood isn't even finished and it already has a Mormon church!
I noticed quite a few Mormon churches in these aerials.

Yay a school. Phoenix must be a good place to live if you wanna be a teacher!

More Sun City.

And still more Sun City.

Aside from the farms, this is what it looked like before they built stuff on it. Lots of dirt bike trails.

Not virgin desert anymore.

Yay another school.

Close-up of typical houses recently built.

Another close-up of new houses.
