NYC:Queens hoods-South Ozone Park

Heading back into Queens proper brings us into the hood known as South Ozone Pk. It goes from Liberty Ave to the Nassau Expwy (NY 878) between 108th St and the Van Wyck Expwy (I-678). This hood is mostly residential. Durring the mid 1800's, the Brooklyn Water Works decided to place a conduit that would run through here with a resiviour. In 1894, the resiviour was mostly drainged and was replaced with the Aqueduct Race Track. The LIRR had the Rockaway Branch to accomadate passangers to the track. Despite this, this never became a rich area. In 1907, it was given its name, though it wasn't actually south of Ozone Pk, but rather east of it. In 1954, the present day racetrack was completed to replace the old one. In the 1950's, the LIRR discontinued the Rockaway Branch, and left the tracks as a remnant of it. Since the postwar era, South Ozone Pk has became home to a number of blacks, Italians, Indians, Guyaneese, and other Hispanics. Durring the summer The Big A Fair is held over at Aqeduct Race Track. You can get here by taking the subway to Rockway Blvd (A), 104th St-Oxford Ave (A), 111th St-Greenwood Ave (A), Ozone Pk-Lefferts Blvd (A), Aqueduct Racetrack (A), and Aqueduct-North Conduit Ave (A). Here is what you will find in South Ozone Pk.
