HONG KONG [9] Fun & Sun in Stanley

Fellow forumer HKT took me to Stanley, a former fishing village on the southern part of HK Island. I spent a lot of my childhood here exploring the countryside, caves, and ocean setting, so this part of HK has a special meaning to me.

The double decker bus forced its way through the breakwater, with the reservoir on one side and this scene on the other.



Since it was a holiday in Hong Kong, there was some traffic leading to the main part of Stanley.



Stanley is bordered by ocean on three sides, so watersports are quite popular here.











































The beach is also very pretty and busy.















There is also another beach on the other side of Stanley, which is about a 10 minute walk from where I took the photos above. The difference is the view, since a lot of container ships heading into Hong Kong pass through the area.











Stanley has a lot of low-density buildings as well as a waterfront promenade and open-air markets.



























Are they building a pier here? What's the dredger doing in this part of town?
