Sitges offered this and was a nice change to staying in Barcelona. I have to admit though, I think next time I go there, I will stay on the beach in the city. But it was still excellent to try something new.
I'll post photo's of Sitges later, but this time I will start off with the hillside park of Montjuic.
Montjuic is one of the larger parks in the city proper of Barcelona. It's located pretty much directly south of the city and although much of it is on steep hills, it can be reached by a large selection of public transport (buses, funicular, two seperate aerial cable car systems and even escalators). It is near the beginning of this park that the famous "magic fountain" is located, although unfortunately due to the drought and heatwave conditions in Barcelona, most of the fountains in the city were switched off.
Montjuic as a park has so much to offer in such a large space, I never had time to see it all on this holiday (I was only in Barcelona/Sitges for two weeks, and travelling with my girl - who doesn't really want me to spend the whole romantic holiday taking photo's
). So I didn't go back to places I had visited last time I was there. On this occasion, I visited the Olympic park, the Botanical gardens and the aerial cable car across the harbour (although on a different day). As well as these, there is also a historic fort at the highest point, a second aerial cable car network (closed at the moment for expansion and renovations), Museums and Galleries (inc the Miro gallery), landscaped gardens, and a replica Spanish village to name just some.(Part 2 can be found here
From the Aerial Cable Car that travels from Montjuic to the Beach over the harbour.
Part 2 coming soon...>
