NYC:Brooklyn hoods-Ocean Parkway

Heading westward brings us into the hood known as Ocean Pkwy. It goes from Ave P to the NY&A Railway between Coney Island and McDonald Aves. This hood is mostly residential. Originally this was part of Midwout in 1652, which was settled by the Dutch. Durring the 1800's it was part of South Greenfield, and was lined with country-like roads. Around that time was the Bay Ridge line of the LIRR to allow for transportation. In the 1920's the area began to see developement. In 1880, a major boulevard known as Ocean Pkwy was laid out to be the main road, eventually giving it the name. In the 1920's, houses and apartments were being built to allow for homes. Unfortunatley, people were fleeing to the suburbs durring the 1970's in which it became a home for new immigrants. In 1997, the NY&A Railway bought the defunct LIRR line. Although Ocean Pkwy does have its neighborhood status, it is associated with Midwood. You can get here by taking the subway to Ave I (F), Bay Pkwy-McDonald Ave (F), Ave N (F), and Ave P (F). Here is what you will find in Ocean Pkwy.
