Google maps in the 40s??

What would happen if satellites, computers, internet and google had existed sixty five years ago?

We could have satelital images of our cities in 1940...

But well, at least for Buenos Aires, it is possible!!!

The local government has created a web page with diverse maps of the city, and between many options, is of seeing air images of the city in 1940...
This is the link, you can visit it, but the page is in Spanish, and is not so simple to use as Google Maps, then I will put a few images:

First of everything, a general map of the city

Then, we do a zoom to a sector. We can see the "regular" map

We can see the "regular" map

Later, we choose the option "Aereal images of 1940 " and...
Here it is!

a zoom in...

We also can see a satelital image of the same sector nowdays...

Finally, some comparisons of 1940 vs 2004; as you can see, some changes are dramatical

A small 9 de Julio Avenue

A HUGE 9 de Julio Avenue

A calm neighborhood

An important crossing of highways!

A rural way

A modern highway

The middle of nothing

A nice neighborhood

The coast of the river, 1940

The coast of the river, 2004

Warehouses of the railroad company

Financial district

I hope that you have enjoyed the "time-travel" and I wait for your comments!! >
